Well, its 10:30pm and i just wrapped up my final assignment for the quarter. I only have to go to one more day of two classes and my winter quarter is at an end. I took drawing composition, 3d desgn, acrylic painting, and photoshop for fine arts/graphic design.
Drawing composition really taught me how to use the whole of the picture plane in a piece and not just one part. in most of my drawings before college, i simply laid an image in the center, very rarely including a background. Now, i have a basic understanding of how to make the whole picture plane work to the benefit of the center of interest, as well as an idea of different ways to keep the viewers eyes moving around the piece. Really awesome stuff, and I was able to create some pretty bad ass pieces if i do say so myself.
3d design was pure awesome. As a 2d artist, this class gave me ideas on how to apply my ideas in 3d. We did casting in paper and clear packing tape (freakin cool!) as well as a short stop animation and using aluminum cans to create a relief sculpture. I now have the confidence to take my art in a whole new direction if I want to.
Acrylic painting was a very frustrating class, but rewarding. I got my first taste of acrylics in my color and design class last quarter, and had fun with it, so i wanted to take this class this quarter. Now, i never did much at all color wise before these two classes, so my color experience was very little. I found myself with an image in my head, but not really having the techniques to apply that image with acrylic. in this class, i only really produced one piece that was worth a damn, but the experience was well worth it. Painting is tough, but I can see the benefit of sticking with it. I do have two commissions for paintings to work on over spring break, so i guess I'm doing something right lol.
Photoshop was pretty fun....besides the fact I had to use a mac. Nothing against them, its just I had never used one before this class. I really hate not having my right click! Using photshop for art took some of my stuff to a whole new level, and the FNF Poster in my gallery was a great example of what can be done. the composite creature in it started as a very quick sketch for my drawing composition sketchbook. I am still amazed how I was able to transform it and make it look as cool as it does.
I will have another batch of art to upload during spring break and i hope you all can appreciate it and constructive criticism is always welcome. I am a deviant to show off my art of course, but also to get some feedback that will help my get better.
If you got this far, thanx for taking the time to take a glimpse into my art life!
